Sunsay is a social alarm clock app: a friend records a voice message that becomes your alarm. This page explains, in plain terms, what data we process and how you can control it. We collect the strict minimum needed for the app to work.

Data we collect

• Audio recordings: the voice messages and audio reactions you record to send to your friends.
• An anonymous device identifier: generated automatically on install, it is used to route messages to the right device. It is not linked to any real-world identity.
• A first name (or nickname): the one you enter so your friends know who is writing to them. You choose what you put there.
• A Sunsay name (your @handle): the one you choose so that the people close to you can find and add you. It appears in your invite link.
• A notification token: to alert you when a friend sends you a message or reacts.
• The list of accounts you block: so that we stop showing you their messages and their reactions.
• An email address, only if you back up your account: backing up goes through Sign in with Apple and lets you recover your account after a reinstall. The address Apple passes on to us is then stored. If you choose "Hide My Email", Apple only passes on a relay address. As long as you do not take that step, no email address is collected.
• A technical log: app events (errors, key steps) are recorded under your identifier so that we can diagnose problems remotely. It is purged automatically after 30 days.

What we do not collect: no phone number, no mandatory real name, no location, no photos, no contacts from your phone. Sunsay contains no advertising, uses no advertising tracker and does not sell any data. You can use Sunsay without ever giving an email address: it is only stored if you turn on account backup yourself.

Why we use this data

• To route voice messages between friends and play them as your alarm.
• To show you who sent you a message when it is revealed.
• To send you notifications about your messages and reactions.

A voice message you send is, by its very nature, shared with the friend it is addressed to. That is the whole point of the app. It is not shared with anyone else.

Where the data is stored

Audio recordings and metadata (device identifier, first name, @handle, block list, notification token, email address where applicable, technical log) are stored on Firebase / Google Cloud (Realtime Database and Cloud Storage), a host providing industry-standard security guarantees. Transfers are encrypted.

How long we keep it

A voice message is kept for as long as it takes to be received and played by its recipient. The technical log is purged automatically after 30 days. You can delete your data at any time (see below). Content that is reported and taken down for breaching our terms is deleted within 24 hours.

Deleting your account and your data

You have two ways to do it, both in your hands:

• In the app: the "Supprimer mon compte" (Delete my account) option, at the bottom of the Profile tab, permanently erases from our servers and from this device your recordings and audio files (both received and sent), your first name, your @handle (which becomes available again), your block list, your friend requests, your notification token, your email address if you had stored one, and your technical log. The scheduled alarm is cancelled and the app starts again from a blank identifier. If your account is linked to Apple, Apple asks you to confirm before the deletion goes through. The action cannot be undone.
• By email: write to sunsayapp@gmail.com and we will delete your data on request.

One limitation to be aware of: the messages you have already sent stay in the inbox of the people you sent them to, along with the first name you sent them under. Deleting your account does not erase them from their side automatically. Write to us and we will remove them.

Moderation and reporting

Sunsay distributes user-generated content. You can report any message you receive and block a sender from within the app. Every report is reviewed and offending content is taken down within 24 hours. See our terms.

Minimum age

Sunsay is for people aged 13 or older. The app is not intended for, and is not directed at, children under 13. If you are under 13, do not use Sunsay and do not send us any personal data.

If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we delete it along with the associated data.
