Sunsay is a social alarm clock app: a friend records a voice message that becomes your alarm. This page explains, in plain terms, what data we process and how you can control it. We collect the strict minimum needed for the app to work.
Data we collect
- Audio recordings: the voice messages and audio reactions you record to send to your friends.
- An anonymous device identifier: generated automatically on install, it is used to route messages to the right device. It is not linked to any real-world identity.
- A first name (or nickname): the one you enter so your friends know who is writing to them. You choose what you put there.
- A notification token: to alert you when a friend sends you a message or reacts.
What we do not collect: no account, no email address, no phone number, no mandatory real name, no location, no contacts from your phone. Sunsay contains no advertising and does not sell any data.
Why we use this data
- To route voice messages between friends and play them as your alarm.
- To show you who sent you a message when it is revealed.
- To send you notifications about your messages and reactions.
A voice message you send is, by its very nature, shared with the friend it is addressed to. That is the whole point of the app. It is not shared with anyone else.
Where the data is stored
Audio recordings and metadata (device identifier, first name) are stored on Firebase / Google Cloud (Realtime Database and Cloud Storage), a host providing industry-standard security guarantees. Transfers are encrypted.
How long we keep it
A voice message is kept for as long as it takes to be received and played by its recipient. You can delete your data at any time (see below). Content that is reported and taken down for breaching our terms is deleted within 24 hours.
Deleting your data
You have two ways to do it, both in your hands:
- In the app: the "Supprimer mon compte" (Delete my account) option, at the bottom of the Profile tab, erases your recordings, your identifier and your first name from our servers, and resets the app.
- By email: write to sunsayapp@gmail.com and we will delete your data on request.
Moderation and reporting
Sunsay distributes user-generated content. You can report any message you receive and block a sender from within the app. Every report is reviewed and offending content is taken down within 24 hours. See our terms.
Children
Sunsay is not intended for, and is not directed at, children under 16.
